GENERAL EDUCATION QUESTIONS   Back to top

Q - What is Encore for Education?

A - Encore for Education provides teachers with unique theatre educational experiences. Our programmes offer practical learning opportunities for students to explore themes and techniques from West End shows through entertaining pre-show workshops.

Q - What kind of workshops do you offer?

A - We offer workshops to suit any level of student, from text-specific to public speaking to audition techniques. All sessions are run by professionals who are both working actors or directors and are experienced workshop leaders. We can also tailor your workshop to suit your group's specific needs.

Q - How long are the workshops?

A - Most workshops run approximately 90 minutes unless otherwise noted. Please refer to individual shows for more details.

Q - Where are the workshops located?

A - Workshops are held at the Theatre Museum in Covent Garden, in West End rehearsal studios or at West End theatres. We endeavour to ensure that all workshops take place within walking distance of the theatre for your performance so that there will be no need for the use of transport during your day.

Q - Will we get to meet a member of the company from the show that we are seeing?

A - If you choose the Q&A option for a show, then you will be guaranteed that your students will have the opportunity to speak with a member of the cast. Please note that we will not be able to confirm the name of the individual in advance.

Q - How do I keep up with your special offers?

A - To keep up to date with the latest information, check back to our website frequently for updates. In addition, if you join our mailing list, we will send you our latest full colour brochure highlighting all the latest rates for our workshops and shows in London. If you would rather speak to one of our team directly, please call us on 020 7432 2330

Q - Is there anything that I need to do to prepare the students for the trip?

A - Although your students will not need any prior knowledge, we can send along additional resources for you to supplement any lessons that you may have before the trip. Just contact us and we can send you either a hard copy or PDF version of the Education Pack for your show.

WHO ARE THE EDUCATION WORKSHOPS FOR?   Back to top

Q - Are the workshops just for students?

A - No! Most workshops can be tailored for any age group from 7 year olds to 70 year olds. Please let us know when you are booking the ages of your group to ensure your age-appropriate workshop. Also, please note that prices are quoted for UK student groups - please enquire about our regular and international student group rates.

Q - Do my students need to be theatre students to attend a workshop?

A - No! Our workshops can both introduce theatre to students but also enhance already existing theatre skills. And as always, we can adapt our general workshops to suite your needs - all that you need to do is ask!

HEALTH AND SAFETY CONCERNS FOR STUDENTS   Back to top

Q - Will anyone be assisting us throughout the day?

A - We can provide someone to accompany you between destinations for no additional cost. All that we ask is that you request this at time of booking.

Q - My student has a nut allergies - are your restaurant selections equipped to handle this?

A - Not only are our restaurants 'pros' at handling large groups, they also can ensure that any food-related problems can be overcome. Please let us know well in advance, though, so that the restaurants are prepared for your visit.

Q - My school requires that I fill out a risk assessment form prior to the trip. Can you help me with some of the details?

A - We have copies of risk assessments for many of the theatres and venues. Please contact Amy at amy@encoretix.co.uk for more details.

BOOKING SHOW TICKETS FOR SCHOOL GROUPS   Back to top

Q - What constitutes a school group?

A - Minimum school group numbers vary from show to show, typically ranging from 8 - 10 for smaller shows and 10-15 for the larger musicals. Please refer to individual shows for the exact number.

Q - Will chaperones have to pay?

A - The rules for free places depend on the show - please refer to ticket prices for more details.

Q - When are school group rates typically valid?

A - Most shows offer school rates for Monday - Thursday Matinee and Evening performances during the school year, but this will vary show to show. Also, most rates do not apply during half-term and school holidays. Please enquire for rates if you wish to attend a performance during these times.

Q - Will all of my group's seats be together?

A - Usually your group will be seated together, but if a show is heavily sold or a theatre is small, your group may need to be split. The box office will seat your group as close together as possible.

Q - When can I make a booking?

A - Our groups team are available from Monday-Friday between the hours of 9.00am-5.30pm on (+44) (0)20 7432 2330. Outside of these hours, please use our online booking form or email education@encoretickets.co.uk and we will respond promptly.

Q - For how long can I hold tickets?

A - We can normally hold tickets up to a month, giving you plenty of time for your school to make payment. This however is dependent upon the show or event and the date for which you are booking.

Q - Are there minimum or maximum numbers for groups?

A - The maximum group size for a group is 25-30 students depending upon the workshop, but normally we are able to accommodate more than one group at a time. This enables our workshop leaders to give as much individual attention as possible.

There is no minimum group size but please note that most prices quoted are for groups of 20 or more. Please inquire about our rates for smaller group sizes.

Q - Will chaperones have to pay for workshops?

A - The rules for free places for workshops depend on the show - please refer to ticket prices for more details.

Q - Do you offer workshops and tickets for overseas groups?

A - Most definitely - please enquire about our overseas rates.

ON THE DAY ADVICE FOR SCHOOL GROUPS   Back to top

Q - What will I need to bring with me on the day?

A - Make sure that you bring all tickets and vouchers with you along with Encore's phone number (020 7439 4000) in case you will be delayed for the workshop.

Q - Is there a dress code for the workshops?

A - Dress comfortably as you will be moving around! As there is no strict dress code for any of the theatres in London, smart/casual is fine, but keep in mind that workshops are practical experiences - so high heels and short skirts are not advised.

Q - Where should I meet for the workshop?

A - You will be given an itinerary with all of the details of the day, including start time and location of the workshop. Also, we can provide you with a map of 'Theatreland' so that you will be able to find your way to and from venues throughout the day.

Q - What time should I arrive at the theatre?

A - It is a good idea to arrive at the theatre a half an hour before curtain so that you have time to find your seats and get comfortable.
