Our fashionable favourite shows in the West End
During London Fashion Week, we asked Encore Tickets staff to think about their favourite fashionable West End show (past or present), and explaining why their show choice has the best costumes. Whether it’s the flamboyance of musicals set in the golden age or the sheer wackiness of outfits on stage, there are plenty of fashionable outfits to choose from. Have a read of some of our entries we received.

“My favourite show is the ever-so glitzy Dreamgirls. From the storyline to the amazing (Beyonce like) vocals, down to those envious figure-hugging dresses! it just makes me want to grab a mic! If you want to be blown away, then this is the show for you. This show has more glitter and sequins then an episode of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding!”

“With the largest cast in the West End, the colourful costumes of 42nd Street dazzle, whether it’s the colourful opening number or glittery closer, it will make you strap on your dancing shoes”

“I loved the costumes in An American in Paris especially in the ballet towards the end of the show. With art deco-style patterns in black and red, they were in keeping with the strong, graphic shapes and colours of the art that was emerging in Europe and America post-WWII”.

“A costume highlight for me this year was Little Shop Of Horrors at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. The decision to have Audrey II portrayed as a drag queen was inspired and gave us some stunning looks. The ensemble’s “Mean, Green” costumes were incredible – with hilariously unique designs to make them look like the different parts of the plant. It was so cleverly done, marrying perfectly with the spectacular set and the way those costumes move in the final number… just hypnotising. I wish it was on longer so I could Sey-mour!”

Our winning entry for the most fashionable West End show past or present goes to…
“Priscilla Queen of the Desert has my vote. From Roman leather-clad hunks to flying angel divas, this show epitomised over the top costumes and drag glamour. Where else can you see twirling cupcake dancers combined with wigs of unlimited shapes and colours, pastel and rainbow coloured mankini tops overlaying massive striped bell bottom trousers?”
