The Playhouse Theatre is located on the end of Northumberland Avenue (WC2N 5DE) in London. It’s close to Trafalgar Square, near London theatres including Trafalgar Studios and the Adelphi Theatre.

How do I get to the Playhouse Theatre?

The Playhouse is in central London, just a short walk from the River Thames. The nearest rail station is Charing Cross, which is a two minute walk away from the theatre. Just walk down the road to Embankment tube station and you’ll see the theatre in front of you.

When did the Playhouse Theatre open?

Opening in 1882, the Playhouse Theatre was originally built as a home for comic operas and burlesques. However, this quickly shifted when George Bernard Shaw’s debut play earned critical praise. The theatre was crushed when Charing Cross Station collapsed onto the theatre, but the Playhouse reopened in 1907 with a wide variety of productions. In its history, it’s been home to live recordings, radio and world premieres. Recently, the Playhouse has been home to Jamie Lloyd plays, including Cyrano de Bergerac.
