Sharon D Clarke reprises her exhilarating, Olivier Award-winning performance as Caroline in Caroline, or Change. With a book, lyrics and music by musical-theatre writing duo Tony Kushner and Jeanine Tesori, the musical draws on African-American and Jewish music to paint a picture of America during the Civil Rights Movement. Melancholic, humorous, lyrical, and compassionate, Caroline, or Change is an heartfelt ode to the uniqueness of Broadway theatre, so you’ll want to see it at Studio 54.
The cast includes Sharon D. Clarke (as Caroline), Caissie Levy (as Rose Stopnick Gellman), John Cariani (as Stuart Gellman), Jonah Mussolino (as Noah Gellman), Tamika Lawrence (as Dotty Moffett), Nasia Thomas, Nya and Harper Miles (as the three Radios), Alexander Bello (as Joe Thibodeaux), Chinua Payne (as Jackie Thibodeaux), Arica Jackson (as the Washing Machine), Stuart Zagnit (as Grandpa Gellman), and Chip Zien (as Mr. Stopnick)
Set in 1960s Louisiana, audiences meet Caroline Thibodeaux, a hard-working maid for a Jewish family who finds herself on the wrong side of the tracks. Whatever the progress of the civil rights movement elsewhere, life in in the Jewish household where she works seem the same, in a show where racial tensions are highlighted.
