Sharing stories from an acting career stretching 60 years, gain insight into McKellen’s greatest roles including Gandalf and Macbeth, allowing audiences to experience a once-in-a-lifetime evening with one of the world’s most prestigious actors.

WHO’S IN IT?: IAN MCKELLEN

Ian McKellen is a multi-award-winning British actor, whose performing career has seen him become the recipient of numerous awards, notably six Oliviers, a Tony Award and four BAFTAs. Making his professional debut in 1961, McKellen has gone on to appear in numerous Shakespeare productions, including a sold-out run as the titular character in King Lear at the Duke of York’s Theatre in 2018.

One of the leading twentieth-century actors, his notable film and stage credits including Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, as well as Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto in the X-Men film series.

Recent West End credits include The Exorcist, lending his voice to the role of The Demon, as well as No Man’s Land and Waiting for Godot alongside Patrick Stewart.

From his first steps on a stage in the North of England to receiving a knighthood, listen to McKellen as he shares previously untold stories about his performances, as well as times spent with famous faces from around the world. Ahead of his West End shows, McKellen said: “Taking this new show to theatres around the country has been a joyful birthday present to myself.  I’ve played mainly in theatres I knew well as a young theatregoer and actor. On my birthday, I was in Bolton Town Hall where my dad used to work. It began last February with 15 theatres in Greater London and will end in Orkney. Soon I will be back in London for a limited season in the West End.”
