Cullberg Ballet has performed across the world since its inception in 1967 by the pioneering Swedish choreographer Birgit Cullberg. The company collaborates with a variety of national and international choreographers and performing artists to present contemporary dance in a distinctly Swedish style. As part of the Northen Light season, the company makes its Sadler's debut with the UK premiere of Plateau Effect.
In this new work, Dutch/Swedish choreographer Jefta van Dinther seeks to challenge audiences with a layering of choreography, light and sound and set. In plateau Effect, the dancers form a community that is constantly on the move as they progress through a series of disorientating and intriguing large scale environments. The viewer's attention intersects between the dancer's movements and the materials they interact with, as the choreographer encourages the audiences to embrace what they do not understand.
