In a first for the Globe, see a Shakespeare play told over two spaces.

Sean Holmes’s adaptation of the Shakespeare romance will transform the indoor Sam Wanamaker Playhouse and the outdoor Globe for one production. As audiences walk through the kingdoms of Sicilia and Bohemia, the two patriarchal worlds will collide to demonstrate the power of love in trying times.

King Leontes, the King of Sicilia grows paranoid when he suspects his wife, Queen Hermione, of infidelity with King Polixenes, the King of Bohemia. When Hermione gives birth, Leontes banishes his daughter, Perdita.

When Perdita grows up, she is raised by shepherd and falls in love with King Polixenes’s son, prince Florizel. Leontes’s decisionmaking continues to haunt him, but time is the greatest healer of them all. Can the rulers let go of their past mistakes and redeem themselves. Or will their commitment to suffering cause lifelong damage?

The Winter’s Tale in London forms part of the year-long celebration of the Folio 400th anniversary. Shakespeare’s Globe also reached a milestone, as it turned 25 in 2022.
