Following his successful productions of Titanic and Ragtime, Thom Sutherland returns to the Charing Cross Theatre to direct the UK premiere of Death Takes A Holiday. The popular Alberto Casella play has had several film adaptations, including a recent Hollywood remake starring Brad Pitt (Meet Joe Black) and is given a musical re-telling from the pen of Tony Award-winning composer Maury Yeston. The musical premiered off-Broadway in 2011, and is full of the lush melodies Maury Yeston has become renowned for.
Shortly after the First World War in Northern Italy, ‘Death’ decides to disguise himself as a handsome young Prince in an effort to discover why humanity feels life is so precious and death is to be feared. However, when Death finds himself falling in love with a newly betrothed young woman, this enigmatic stranger discovers begins to appreciate why humanity hold such opinions on life and death. An uplifting story on the power of love and the value of life.
Zoë Doano (Les Misérables) and Chris Peluso (Miss Saigon, Show Boat) lead the cast which also includes Kathryn Akin, Anthony Cable, Trudi Camilleri, Ken Christiansen, Scarlett Courtney, Sophie-May Feek, James Gant, Mark Inscoe, Matthew McDonald, Gay Soper, Ashley Stillburn, Samuel Thomas and Helen Turner.
