A fantasy musical about dreams and self belief, Amour will receive its UK premiere at the Charing Cross Theatre. After opening on Broadway in 2002, the show was nominated for five Tony Awards including best musical, featuring music by award-winning Michel Legrand and English lyrics by Jeremy Sams. The story of a French civil servant wanting to marry the woman of his dreams, Amour is set to be a charming musical that’s sure to entice you in its dreamy, idyllic world.
Gary Tushaw will return to Charing Cross Theatre to play Dusoleil, with previous credits including Ragtime and Allegro at Southwark Playhouse. He is joined by Anna O’Byrne, Alasdair Harvey, Elissa Churchill, Claire Machin, Keith Ramsay, Steven Serlin, Alistair So, Daniel Stockton with understudies Laura Barnard and Jack Reitman.
Set in 1950s Paris, audiences meet Dusoleil, a male civil servant who lives alone. To pass the time, he often writes letter to his other and daydreams about Isabelle, a young woman he regularly thinks of who is kept locked away by her controlling husbands. Determined to woo Isabelle, Dusoleil does whatever it takes, especially when he gains the superpower ability to walk through walls. Living a Robin Hood inspired life by stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, will he be able to change his own life and Isabelle’s?
