An American in Paris tells the story of a young American GI, Jerry Mulligan, who is living in Paris and pursuing his dream of becoming a painter following the end of World War II. As the memory of the Nazi Occupation fades, Paris’ residents begin to come alive once more and Jerry spots Lise Dassin, a beautiful young dancer, in a crowd.
By chance, they meet again at a ballet rehearsal, where Jerry falls in love with the dancer. Unfortunately, Lise is already engaged to Henri, a rich businessman, who dreams of being a performer himself. But, does Lise really love Henri, or is it Jerry that she’s meant to be with? And, can she ever get over the fact that Henri’s family saved her life during the war? To complicate matters further, while at the ballet rehearsal, Jerry catches the eye of American heiress Milo.
An American in Paris is a powerful modern romance that charts the journey of Lise and Jerry as they fall in love, chase their dreams, and rediscover the joy of life in a city striving to regain its magic.
