About Follies

“I dim the lights and think about you.”

Ghosts of past selves walk the boards in Stephen Sondheim’s legendary musical, Follies, returning to London in 2019 following an acclaimed, sold-out run at the National Theatre early this year.

Winner of the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival, the show includes the classic songs ‘Broadway Baby’, ‘I’m Still Here’ and ‘Losing My Mind’. Performed by a cast of 37 and an orchestra of 21, Follies is directed by Dominic Cooke (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) and tells the story of the singers and dancers who made up Weismann’s Follies as they gather for one final party before their beloved Broadway theatre meets the bulldozer.

This is a unique opportunity for those of you who missed it the first time around to experience the pure brilliance of Sondheim’s Follies. Book now for this musical theatre gem.

Alexander Hanson (An Ideal Husband, A Little Night Music) and Joanna Riding (Carousel, My Fair Lady) join original cast members Janie Dee (NSFW, Comic Potential) and Peter Forbes (‘Casualty’, Singin' in the Rain) for the 2019 run.

What's the story?

New York, 1971. There’s a party on the stage of the Weismann Theatre. Thirty years after their final performance, the Follies girls gather to share few drinks, a few songs and a few lies about themselves. They’re old now, and as they recreate some of their old routines, the rose tint of their reminiscences darkens… And tomorrow the iconic building in which they share their memories of a time long gone will also crumble away to dust.
