About Get Up, Stand Up!

Get ready for “3 Little Birds” to come to the West End as the Bob Marley musical Get Up, Stand Up! opens at the Lyric Theatre in February 2021. Arinzé Kene will play the Jamaican artist in a brand new musical about Bob Marley’s life, bringing his visionary lyrics and extraordinary mind to the West End stage. 

WHO'S IN IT?: GET UP, STAND UP! CAST 

Arinzé Kene will play Bob Marley in Get Up, Stand Up! at the Lyric Theatre. His one-man play Misty at Trafalgar Studios was nominated for best new play and best actor at the 2019 Olivier Awards. Kene has also starred in the world premiere of Girl from the North Country at the Old Vic and One Night in Miami at the Donmar Warehouse. 

Further casting for Get Up, Stand Up! is to be announced. 

Get Up, Stand Up! features a book by Lee Hall, whose previous writing credits include Billy Elliot. Dominic Cooke will direct the production, also directing Hello, Dolly! at the Adelphi Theatre and Good at the Playhouse Theatre.

WHAT'S THE STORY? 

Not much is known about the synopsis of Get Up, Stand Up!, but it is set to be an autobiographical musical about the life and career of Bob Marley. Considered to be one of the leading figures of reggae and ska music, the Jamaican singer and songwriter continues to influence global music and culture over 35 years since his passing. 

The musical is named after the Bob Marley track “Get Up, Stand Up!”. Released in 1973, Marley wrote the song while touring Haiti.
