Set in 1934, audiences are transported to a time-weathered guesthouse in the heartland of America. A desolate community on the brink of crisis, the guesthouse’s owner owes more money than he can repay, while his wife has descended into madness and their adopted daughter Marianne is carrying a child. As individuals pass in and out of each other’s lives, their stories awaken with passion, fury and extraordinary beauty. When a blackmailing preacher selling bibles and a fugitive boxer looking for a comeback arrive in the middle of the night, things start to spiral beyond the point of no return…
