About The Toxic Avenger

Following a successful run at the Southwark Playhouse, The Toxic Avenger returns to London, making its West End debut at the Arts Theatre. Written by Joe DiPietro (Nice Work If You Can Get It) and David Bryan (Memphis), the show is based on the 1984 film of the same name, and promises to be as wacky as the material it’s based on! Directed with flare by Benji Sperring and featuring songs such as “Thank God She’s Blind”, “Bitch/Slut/Liar/Whore” and “Choose Me, Oprah!”, this one is too ridiculous to miss!

What's the story?

When a plot to pollute New Jersey is uncovered by aspiring earth scientist Melvin, the whole world turns upside down. Melvin insists that he will save the day, but never expects to find himself thrown into a vat of toxic waste and be reborn as New Jersey’s very own toxic superhero Toxie. The seven-foot tall mutant freak with a hideously deformed face, stacked superhero body and supersized heart sets out to save New Jersey and end global warming. Achieving this whilst winning the heart of the prettiest and blindest librarian in town is never going to be easy, but the Toxic Avenger will stop at nothing to give his toxic, environmentally friendly love story a happy ending.
