About Thriller Live

Now in its record breaking 9th year, Thriller Live is not to be missed. The legacy of Michael Jackson, the world’s greatest entertainer, continues to amaze audiences with tune after tune, not to mention, all of his trademark dance sequences.

From his early days in the Jackson 5 to his illustrious solo career, Jackson’s career is re-lived in the only way fitting for the King of Pop. Thriller Live brings the music of Jackson to life, taking the audience on a sensory journey through his 45 year career. From pop to rock and disco to soul, his ground-breaking dance moves and legendary live performances are recreated by the awe-inspiring cast to immerse the audience in the world of Michael Jackson and his musical legacy.

Thriller Live opened at the Lyric theatre in 2009, when it received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. The show has astounded over 3 million fans in no less than 30 countries and has broken the record of the longest running show in the 125 year history of the Lyric Theatre.

Thriller Live stars not just one, but five Michaels. A quintet of supremely dynamic young singer/dancers inhabiting the spirit of the Moonwalk master with the utmost skill and conviction. Among their number is Simon Cowell’s discovery Haydon Eshun, who was hailed as the new MJ, when he was just 9 years old and supported Janet Jackson on her UK tour.

And it’s lucky he’s that good, because the songs he and the rest of the cast get to sing are the best in Jackson’s back catalogue, from "ABC" to "Blame It On the Boogie", "Smooth Criminal", "Beat It", "Billie Jean", "Heal the World" and "Black or White". You even get to join in when they do "Shake Your Body Down".

What's the story?

Thriller Live takes the audience on a journey through Jackson’s extensive and legendary musical repertoire.  The show thrillingly pays homage to the master entertainer, with a flair and energy worthy of Michael Jackson himself.

The story behind the creation of the show is fascinating, in 1988, Adrian Grant, launched the world’s first Michael Jackson fanzine ‘Off the Wall’. Within two years, the circulation grew from just 200 to over 25,000 people. This lead to an invitation to Neverland and a lifelong friendship between Michael and Adrian, who went on to develop Thriller Live from the series of tribute shows he had been creating since 1991.

Facts & Figures

When Michael Jackson died in June 2009, the theatre where Thriller Live is showing became a mecca for bereaved fans. For days afterwards, the Lyric Theatre was inundated with legions of visitors leaving tributes, cards and flowers.

According to Kenny Ortega, the choreographer behind the doomed This Is It tour, MJ was planning to visit Thriller Live when he came over to London. But even if he had, you might not have known you were in the presence of greatness because the eccentric star intended to come in disguise.

The moonwalk was inspired by the great French mime artist Marcel Marceau’s “walking against the wind” skit.
