About Admissions

After premiering in New York, Admissions plays at Trafalgar Studios for a 13 week limited engagement. A look into what parents and children face when applying for schools, it gives an insight into what's at stake with a college application. Pitting ideals of liberal White America against attempts to diversify the student body and wider society, Admissions is an exciting and provocative play where great actions can bring greater consequences and privilege, power and “whiteness” are tested.

WHO’S IN IT?: ADMISSIONS CAST

Alex Kingston will star in Admissions, with her biggest performing credits including Doctor Who as River Song and Dr. Elizabeth Corday in ER. More recently, she has starred in Arrow, a superhero drama.

Sarah Hadland joins the cast, best known for playing Stevie in Miranda.

The cast is completed by Andrew Wooddall, Margot Leicester and Ben Edelman.

What's the story?

Noticing that there are only three people of colour in the prospectus for The Hillcrest School, admissions department head Sherri Rosen-Mason wants to shake things up. Working to create a prospectus to reflect modern America with the help of the school’s headmaster Bill who is also Sherri’s husband, The Hillcrest School sees itself thrust into the 21st century.

At the same time, their son Charlie is applying for Ivy League universities, typically associated with elitist White American values. While balancing school and university, Sherri and Bill see their personal, private ambitions directly against the public values they hold in a show all about the joint pitfalls of higher education and race.

Piercing and provocative, Admissions is 90 minutes long, but the debate will take you through the night.

“Electric. The air crackles with tension.” Daily Mail

‘Astonishing and daring’ The New York Times

'Smart, hilarious and provocative’ The Hollywood Reporter
