Inspired by the 2019 General Election, John Godber’s Angels of the North is a contemporary comedy that ponders over the north of England being run under a different government. Exuding Godber’s signature wit and dry observations, his latest comedy is set to be reflective and packed with funny moments.
Angels of the North stars John Godber, Martha Godber and Adrian Hood.
John Godber is a British playwright, whose best known works include Teechers as well as a writer on British television series Grange Hill. His recent play, Scary Bikers, was staged at Trafalgar Studios in 2019.
Dennis and Mick are the worst taxi drivers in the North; they’re ignorant, offensive and rude to all their customers, and it’s a wonder they’ve got money coming in. But, when longstanding owner Val suddenly dies, they have to deal with her savvy, streetwise, tourism guru of a niece, Roxy, who takes over the firm that’s at the end of the line.
Set before, during and after the fateful General Election on December 12th 2019, Angels of the North is a hilarious and touching insight into the north of England now the ‘red’ wall has fallen.
