David Tennant stars in CP Taylor’s Good at the Harold Pinter Theatre from April 2021, directed by the Olivier Award-winning Dominic Cooke. Set in Nazi Germany, don’t miss the leading Holocaust drama in English-speaking theatre. Good is a warning for our times.
Best known as the tenth incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who from 2005-2010, David Tennant will play John Halder in Good. His West End credits include the title role in Don Juan in Soho and Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, both staged at the Wyndham’s Theatre, as well as the lead role in Richard II at the Barbican. On television, Tennant has starred in Deadwater Fell, Good Omens and There She Goes.
Fenella Woolgar will play John Halder's wife Helen in Good, previously delivering an award-winning performance in Hedda Gabler at the Old Vic opposite Sheridan Smith. On television, she is best known as Sister Hilda in Call The Midwife.
Elliot Levey will play John Halder's Jewish friend Maurice, recently starring in Snowflake at the Kiln Theatre. He’s also starred in an adaptation of Three Sisters at the Almeida Theatre and Mary Stuart at the Duke of York’s.
Further casting is to be announced.
‘You make a deal with yourself one minute, you totally repudiate it the next.’
Frankfurt literary professor John Halder is a good man. He’s a decent, intelligent, music-loving German professor, who adapts to survive in order to live through the rise of Nazism and into the Second World War.
Is it possible to be a good person when things are falling apart?
An apposite fable for modern times, see how John Halder finds himself seduced by a movement that crescendos towards an unthinkable finale in a twentieth-century classic about the perils of moral compromise.
