Home, I’m Darling will transfer from the National Theatre to the Duke of York’s Theatre in January 2019. Written by Laura Wade, whose previous credits include Posh and Catch, Home, I’m Darling is a sparkling comedy that marries the 1950s lifestyle to the present day, in a play which follows the journey of one woman as she sets out to be the model 1950’s housewife.
Katherine Parkinson will reprise her role as Judy, a woman who longs to be the ultimate housewife. Her stage credits include Dead Funny at the Vaudeville Theatre and Before the Party at the Almeida Theatre, however she’s built up a fanbase from starring in The IT Crowd alongside Chris O’Dowd and Richard Ayoade.
The cast is completed by Charlie Allen, Susan Brown, Ellie Burrow, Richard Harrington, Siubhan Harrison, Jane MacFarlane and Hywel Morgan.
After being made redundant from a well-paid career in finance, Judy escapes the stresses of modern day life and fulfils her dream of living like a 1950s housewife. Happily married to her husband Johnny, the dreamy veneer of the relationship begins to crack as Judy aspires to be the perfect domestic goddess. As the fantasy of being a good wife begins to wear, the show challenges the notion of present-day gender equality and the relationship between husband and wife today.
