In a double bill of plays by prize-winning poet Christopher Reid, Love, Loss and Chianti combines creative animations with heartfelt monologues. Staged at the newly renovated Riverside Studios, the plays swing with one another in a theatrical event where love and loss go hand in hand, with plenty of Chianti.
The two-person play stars Robert Bathurst, who has starred in productions of Blithe Spirit and Present Laughter, as well as Whipping It Up at the Ambassadors Theatre. On television, he’s appeared on ITV’s Cold Feet and ITV’s Downton Abbey.
Rebecca Johnson stars alongside Bathurst, whose television credits include The Trip and The Flood.
The show opens with A Scattering, Christopher Reid’s award-winning autobiographical, startlingly beautiful meditation on grief. It’s followed by The Song Of Lunch, his fictional raucous comedy set in a Soho restaurant. He’s trying to rekindle the flame of an old love affair, so what could possibly go wrong?
