About Red

The explosive, six-time Tony Award-winning drama Red comes to the Wyndham’s Theatre this May. Taking up residence in the UK for the first time since its 2009 Donmar Warehouse premiere, this Michael Grandage Company production is expected to paint the town ‘Red’.

Please note: Latecomers will not be admitted.

WHO'S IN IT?: RED CAST

Renowned stage and screen actor Alfred Molina will reprise his Tony Award-nominated performance as American abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko.

Molina will be joined in this two-hander by rising-star Alfred Enoch (‘How to Get Away With Murder’) as Ken, Rothko’s assistant.

What's the story?

Red opens a window into the life of the acclaimed painter Mark Rothko at the height of his artistic renown.

Aided by his young assistant, Ken, Rothko takes on his greatest challenge yet, a series of large paintings intended to feature in New York’s brand-new Four Seasons Restaurant. While the two men paint, life-changing questions surrounding the subject of art emerge. What does it mean to create art and what is its purpose in the modern world?

Based on real events, Red takes a bold look at the tempestuous relationship between the artist and their art.
