Richard Cameron’s The Glee Club returns to London as part of the Kiln Theatre’s current season. In a poignant and hilariously heartwarming play, join a group of miners as they reminisce on shared experiences and the close bonds between them.
Bill Ward will star as Bant in The Glee Club, previously appearing in Everybody's Talking About Jamie as Hugo/Loco Chanelle.
The cast is completed by Robert Jackson, Linford Johnson, Kai Owen and Eamonn Riley.
The Glee Club is written by Richard Cameron, a playwright whose works focus on communities in the North of England and working-class life.
Set in 1960s Britain, five miners and a church organist are preparing for their annual appearance at a local gala. Together, they’re the Edlington Miners’ Glee Club, hard-working and hard-drinking at the same time. As they reflect on a changing society around them, they quickly realise the ‘good old days’ they’re used to won’t be here forever.
‘When I go back those days in my head, it’s to that pit and the fun I had with a bunch of old men singing songs.’
