Described as “the most exciting playwright of our time” by The Guardian, Olivier Award-winning Florian Zeller (The Father, The Mother, The Truth) brings his new play The Height of the Storm to Wyndham’s Theatre for a strictly limited season from 2nd October 2018. The Height of the Storm is directed by Jonathan Kent (Gypsy, Long Day’s Journey Into Night) and has been translated from French by Christopher Hampton, famed for his translations of Ibsen and Chekov.

This compelling family drama about the fragility of love stars the multi-award winning actors Jonathan Pryce and Dame Eileen Atkins. This is your once in a lifetime chance to see them perform together on the West End stage.

Three-time Olivier Award-winning actress Dame Eileen Atkins stars as Madeleine. Atkins is well-known for her BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning role in ‘Cranford’, and has recently appeared as Queen Mary in Netflix’s ‘The Crown’. Her stage credits include Honour, Retreat from Moscow and Ellen Terry.

Jonathan Pryce plays André. Pryce is also an Olivier Award-winner, having earnt the title of Best Actor for his role in Hamlet at the Royal Court in 1980. His extensive list of stage roles includes, The Engineer in Miss Saigon, Fagin in Oliver, and Professor Higgins in My Fair Lady. He is well-known for his screen roles in ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’ series, ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’, ‘Wolf Hall’ and ‘Game of Thrones’.

The cast is completed by Amanda Drew, Anna Madeley, James Hillier and Lucy Cohu

What's the story?

The Height of the Storm explores the themes of love, family bonds and the fragility of life.

André and Madeleine are an affectionate couple who have been married for fifty years. One weekend, their daughters arrive, and so do a bunch of flowers sent by a woman from the past. A series of unusual events – including the reappearance of this mysterious woman – cause the devoted couple’s marriage to come under scrutiny. Why are these things happening and why does André feel like he’s not really there at all?
