What happens when the writer loses the plot?
After critically-acclaimed performances at Menier Chocolate Factory, Laura Wade’s latest play transfers to the Harold Pinter Theatre in 2020. Inspired by an incomplete novel by Jane Austen, The Watsons ties the stories of literary greats and contemporary playwrights to finish a centuries-old tale that’s full of heart.
The Watsons will star Grace Molony as Emma Watson, reprising her performance from the Menier Chocolate Factory. Sam Alexander, Sally Bankes, Jane Booker, Elaine Claxton, Ralph Davis, Tim Delap, Sophie Duval, Louise Ford, John Wilson Goddard, Rhianna McGreevy, Elander Moore, Paksie Vernon and Cat White will also star in the show's West End transfer.
Further casting for The Watsons is to be announced.
At 19 years old, Emma Watson finds herself in the middle of a new town. Cut off by her aunt and faced with no choice but to move into the family home, Emma decides to get married quickly. With plenty of potential suitors announced including Tom Musgrave and Lord Osborne, the possibilities for true love remain high. But, Jane Austen didn’t finish the story.
Laura Wade reimagines the incomplete novel by the infamous British laureate in a show that asks what happens when characters are left abandoned by their author.
