About Vincent River

A play that tackles hate crime and what ‘difference’ means in society, Vincent River is sure to shock audiences in the West End. Written by Phillip Ridley and directed by Robert Chevara, it’s a modern play that was first performed at the Hampstead Theatre in 2000 and has been performed across Europe and America. With hate crimes rising considerably in recent years, it’s set to be a play that will look at what it means to act upon impulses in today’s society.

Vincent River will star Louise Jameson and Thomas Mahy, reprising their performances first staged at the Park Theatre.

Louise Jameson will play Anita. After starring in Doctor Who in the 1970s opposite Tom Baker as the Doctor, she has been on numerous television shows including Tenko, Bergerac and Eastenders. In the theatre, Jameson’s recent credits include Gutted at Theatre Royal Stratford East and a national tour of The Mousetrap.

Thomas Mahy makes his West End debut in Vincent River at Trafalgar Studio Two.

Latecomers will not be admitted, and the show is 85 minutes with no interval. The recommended age is 14+.

What's the story?

Set in a rundown flat in Dagenham, Davey has seen something he can never forget. Anita has been forced to flee her home. Tonight, they meet for the first time... and their lives will change forever.

Philip Ridley’s modern classic was a huge success when it premiered at Hampstead Theatre in 2001, and a West End smash at Trafalgar Studios in 2007. Thrilling, heartbreaking and darkly humorous, it’s now seen as one of the most powerful explorations of hate crime.
