Record-breaking hit musical Wicked is welcoming back actress Harriet Thorpe in the role of Madame Morrible from 22 April until 16 November 2013 at London's Apollo Victoria Theatre. She replaces Louise Plowright, who has been obliged to withdraw from the role due to ill health.
Thorpe previously played Madame Morrible from April 2008 until March 2010. She has enjoyed a long-standing association with Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French, appearing in multiple episodes of French & Saunders, Murder Most Horrid and The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle. She has played the role of Fleur in Absolutely Fabulous since 1992 and starred in The Brittas Empire as receptionist Carole.
On stage, Thorpe most recently starred as Frauline Kost in Rufus Norris’s production of Cabaret at the Savoy Theatre, a role she previously played at the Lyric Theatre in 2006. She also starred in Crazy For You at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre and at the Novello Theatre, and played Tanya in Mamma Mia! at the Prince of Wales Theatre.
As well as Thorpe, Wicked currently stars Louise Dearman as Elphaba, Gina Beck as Glinda, Ben Freeman as Fiyero, Keith Bartlett as The Wizard, Christopher Howell as Doctor Dillamond, Sam Lupton as Boq, Katie Rowley Jones as Nessarose, Hayley Gallivan as Standby Elphaba and Lucy van Gasse as Standby Glinda.
