It looks like Matilda The Musical is going to have to free up some more space on an already clogged mantelpiece – the critical darling has won the South Bank Sky Arts Award for Theatre.
The little-girl-that-could beat strong competition from the National Theatre’s hit comedy One Man, Two Guvnors and sleeper hit Constellations from the Royal Court Theatre.
This honour is just the latest in a long line of achievements for the Tim Minchin musical, which to date has won a Critics’ Circle Theatre Award, two TMA (Theatrical Management Association) Awards, an Evening Standard Award, four What’s On Stage Awards and seven Laurence Olivier Awards – that’s a whopping 16 awards so far!
The South Bank Sky Arts Awards ceremony took place on May 1 and was presented by Melvyn Bragg. They awards cover 11 cultural categories including music, film and television.
