History

Hampstead Theatre was first established in 1959 in a Scout Hall. It moved to a portacabin in Swiss Cottage in 1962, with a purpose-built theatre opening in 2003. In 2010, the theatre opened the space downstairs from the main theatre, dedicated to new writing. Since its opening, Hampstead Theatre has become one of London’s most vibrant theatres with stars including Jude Law, John Malkovich and Alison Steadman.
