History of Metro Radio Arena

Originally conceived by Nigel Stanger and Chas Chandler, one-time member of band The Animals and manager of Jimi Hendrix, the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena was seen as filling a gap in the market for a large-scale venue in the North East, as the biggest venue at the time held only 3,000 people. It has since hosted some of the biggest music acts in the world.

It has been the home to several sports teams in the past, including the Whitley Warriors, the Newcastle Cobras/Vipers and the Newcastle Comets/Eagles.
