About City of Angels

Rosalie Craig stars in the West End transfer of City of Angels, opening at the Garrick Theatre in 2020. First directed by Josie Rourke, the production went on to win best musical revival at the Olivier Awards, in a show that celebrates Hollywood and film noir. Combining thrilling detective sleuthing with the cut-throat world of screenwriting, City of Angels is a jazzy musical love letter for the ages.

Hadley Fraser reprises his role as Stine, with West End credits including Young Frankenstein and Les Miserables. He is joined by his Donmar cast including Rosalie Craig, who will reprise her roles of Gabby/Bobbi. Cast members reprising their performances from the Donmar production include Rebecca Trehearn as Donna/Oolie, Marc Elliott as Panchos/Munoz, Nick Cavaliere as Sonny, Adam Fogarty as Big Six and Mark Penfold as Luther Kingsley.

Theo James stars as Stone, previously appearing in Sex with Strangers at the Hampstead Theatre, joined by Jonathan Slinger as Buddy/Irwin, who returns to the West End after playing Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Tony Award-nominated actress Vanessa Williams will make her West End debut in City of Angels, with Broadway credits including Into the Woods and Kiss of the Spider Woman. Former Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts will make her West End debut as Avril/Mallory in City of Angels, alongside Rob Houchen as Jimmy/Dr Mandril, Joshua St Clair as Peter Kingsley and Cindy Bellot, Sadie-Jean Shirley, Manuel Pacific and Ryan Reid as the Angel City 4.

What's the story?

Set in 1940s Hollywood, City of Angels follows two parallel worlds running concurrently; the life of a New York writer trying to turn his book into a screenplay and the film’s storyline in action. With actors doubling up to play characters in real life and in the film world.

In the glitzy, glamourous world of Tinseltown, City of Angels asks audience to consider what’s real and what’s on a reel...
