About Our Town

Last performed in London at the Almeida Theatre in 2014, Our Town sees audiences enter the fictional world of Grover’s Corners, a small town in America. Written by Thornton Wilder, the narrative conveys the lives of citizens during the turn of the twentieth century. The show is set to break the fourth wall and answer questions from the audience during the production. First performed in 1938, the show tackles common themes of love, relationship and death in a hard-hitting, emotional play that went on to win the 1938 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Age Restrictions:

As this is a new production, further details will be added to the website as the season approaches. However, as a three-act play, we consider that Our Town is likely to be most suitable for those aged 11 and over. It remains the responsibility of the parent/guardian in advance of purchase to make their own judgement as to the suitability of the show for their own child.

What's the story?

Over the course of three acts, audiences are immersed into Grover’s Corner, New Hampshire. As the show begins, we are met by the stage manager who welcomes everyone into their new surroundings. Life seems idyllic at first, with two households uniting after childhood sweethearts Emily Webb and George Gibbs marry each other. However, with happiness also comes sadness as act three faces the impact of death on families. With the stage manager regularly breaking the fourth wall to fill audiences in on what is happening, audiences receive great insight into living in twentieth-century America. Full of bittersweet memories, Our Town is a dramatised narrative of the realities of life.
