Emilia Clarke will make her West End debut in The Seagull at the Playhouse Theatre, as part of The Jamie Lloyd Company’s latest season. Originally written by Anton Chekhov, the late nineteenth-century drama following personal and professional conflicts has been powerfully modernised by Anya Reiss, injecting 21st century tales of love and loneliness into this clever adaptation.
Emilia Clarke will play Nina. Best known as Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO hit series Game of Thrones, Clarke’s theatre credits include the Broadway revival of Breakfast at Tiffany’s as Holly Golightly. On the silver screen, Clarke has starred in the film adaptation of Me Before You, as well as Solo: A Star Wars Story and Last Christmas.
Further casting for The Seagull is to be announced.
In an isolated home in the countryside, audiences see dejected individuals with broken hearts and believing there’s nowhere to turn. With a young woman desperate for fame, a young man pursuing the true love and an actress and writer determined to achieve, their only way to be successful is for them to turn on each other. In a story of ambition, love and loneliness, The Seagull examines the cost and consequences of fame and what it takes to achieve.
